Council Vacancy Appointment

Notice is hereby given that a vacancy exists on the Walcott City Council.  The City Council intends to fill the vacancy by appointment as provided in Section 372.13(2)(a), of the Code of Iowa. The appointment will be considered by the City Council during their meeting on January 19, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Walcott City Hall.

To be considered for the appointment, eligible interested citizens may submit an application for appointment to the City Clerk by 4:00 p.m. on January 16, 2026, either in person at Walcott City Hall or electronically to info@cityofwalcott.com. Applications are available at Walcott City Hall and online here.

The appointed individual shall serve until the next regular election on November 2, 2027. The electors of the City have the right to file a petition with the City Clerk. If within fourteen days after publication of this notice or within fourteen days after the appointment is made, there is filed with the City Clerk a petition which requests a special election to fill the vacancy, an appointment to fill the vacancy is temporary and the council shall call a special election to fill the vacancy.
