Walcott is a community of 1,551 citizens and strives to balance commercial and residential needs to maintain our small-town quality of life. The City of Walcott operates under a Mayor/City Council form of government. The Mayor and City Council Members are each elected for four-year staggered terms. The Council adopts all ordinances, resolutions, and policies of the City of Walcott.

The public is welcome to attend City Council Meetings; meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 6 p.m. Public comment is allowed during the meetings under Introduction of Audience/Public Comments, but it will be limited. All agenda items must be presented to the City Clerk by Noon on the Thursday prior to meetings.

How do I run for Mayor or a City Council position?

The Mayor and City Council members are each elected for four-year staggered terms. City elections are held in odd-numbered years in November. A candidate must be an eligible elector in Walcott at the time of filing nomination papers and at the time of the election. Each candidate must file nomination papers with the Scott County Auditor. Copies of nomination papers and candidate's guide are available at City Hall and online at the Scott County Auditors office.

How do I obtain a copy of the City Council agenda or meeting minutes?

City Council agendas are available after 4:00 p.m. on the Friday prior to a City Council meeting (first and third Monday). Agendas are posted at City Hall, Walcott Post Office and Walcott Trust and Savings Bank. Agendas are also posted online for regular meetings on Friday afternoon, prior to the meeting. On the home page, under City Government you will find a page with City Council Agendas. Minutes are available on the City of Walcott website and, pursuant to State Code, published in the local newspaper, the North Scott Press, within 15 days of the meeting. View minutes here!

How do I have an item placed on a City Council meeting agenda?

The City Clerk's Office coordinates the agenda for all City Council meetings. City Council agenda items are due in the City Clerk's Office in City Hall by noon on the Friday preceding the Council meeting. Please contact the City Clerk at 563.284.6571 x10.

When and where does the City Council meet?

The Walcott City Council meets on the first and third Monday of each month at City Hall at 128 W. Lincoln Street at 6:00 p.m. The first meeting in September is always held on the first Tuesday, due to Labor Day.
